President's Message - October 2018
Monday, October 1, 2018
EVERY OLD CAR GUY OR GAL knows October brings the high holy days of Hershey, the granddaddy of all swap meets! There is something special about searching for that impossible to find part or accessory along with thousands of others, occasionally in the rain. Then checking out the almost endless car corral in pursuit of a great buy, or to confirm your car or truck was a better deal than you thought. The Saturday drive-by to the AACA show field of almost every kind of car or truck imaginable is a unique thrill..1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12 and 16 cylinder engines, steamers and electrics…all passing by just 10 feet away.
You really owe it to yourself to go, maybe with a good friend or your spouse. Pack carefully, Hershey weather varies, but it is impossible to dampen the spirit and enthusiasm.
Be sure to stop by the VCCA booth at RED FIELD spaces RWC 23-26. We have rare & interesting literature and VCCA items available, and the VCCA Model H Chapter meeting is on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. Franklin Gage, your VP, and I will be there and we would like to meet you. The deadline to sign up for the annual Thursday night Keystone Region sponsored VCCA picnic held nearby is October 1; if you are late email firstname.lastname@example.org to check for cancellations. Great food and even greater camaraderie!
Please check out the latest information on the Vintage Chevrolet Heritage Foundation in this issue. Thanks to financial donations from our members and VCCA Regions, our deteriorating Chevrolet service, sales training and advertising filmstrips are being digitized. You will enjoy seeing and hearing the training techniques from each era…some have never changed!... at www.vintagechevyheritage.org
Also please see the article about Mecum Auctions on page 30. You and I have a tremendous opportunity to have fun growing our club by introducing Chevrolet enthusiasts to the VCCA while enjoying the hundreds of cars at each Mecum auction. To make this work, please register as a bidder (free bidder passes are a valuable benefit of your VCCA membership!) and, if you can, volunteer a couple hours to staff a VCCA table. You will receive two free bidder’s passes (with no obligation to bid) including admission to the rest of the auction. Experience in person the fastest growing part of the antique/collector car hobby, at no cost. Please contact VCCA’s Jim Matus at nosparts4u@ hotmail.com for Mecum Auction registration info.
I continue to urge you to join a Region, or start one. Region members have a lot of family fun together, tour, cruise, go to car shows and build lasting friendships. You don’t know what you are missing if you haven’t yet joined a Region.
Get involved, help promote the VCCA, help start Regions and participate in tours, shows, and auctions! Enjoy the Fall, it won’t be with us long…but most of all, get out there and See the USA in your Chevrolet! See you at Hershey!
Yours through Chevrolet (and GMC),
